Designer Mario Tsai Creates Jewelry Boxes from Ink Stone

Designer Mario Tsai has created a unique ink stone jewelry box series titled 'Ink' for Mx object. Historically, ink stone has been utilized in China for the purposes of painting or calligraphy. Tsai took advantage of its unique texture to craft his collection of jewelry boxes. The design allows for the boxes to be covered in two different ways: the two lids either have a slot or a thin handle. The innovative slot design allows for small jewelry pieces such as rings, earrings or bracelets to placed atop on when not being worn.

Ink stone is a very special and fragile material, so every jewelry box has to be carefully hand-polished and specifically cut by a computer numeric control machine.
