Korean Hanok principles shape Inga Kordya’s Moscow apartment, designed for a Korean couple and their two daughters. Drawing from 14th-century homes studied in Seoul’s Bukchon and Namsangol districts, Kordya uses tinted-oak shutter doors proportioned like traditional Korean doors to modulate direct sunlight. Brass handles shaped like eight-petal flowers add a decorative detail, while the shutters create patterned shadows across the living room floor. Matte-glass sliding doors by Rimadesio reinterpret the same relationship between light and separation, using vertical mullions to maintain visual connections between spaces while allowing rooms to remain distinct.
Three bedrooms and three bathrooms surround a central hall that draws light into the apartment’s interior. Sliding partitions allow the daughters’ rooms to open into a shared play space, while marble, granite, natural wood, brass, ceramics, linen, wool, and cotton establish a tactile material palette. Rotating brass sconces provide adjustable lighting in the primary bedroom.
