The IKEA KONSTRUNDA collection is coming to IKEA stores across Canada and online beginning in September, and it elevates everyday objects into works of art so that beautiful, thoughtful designs with a point of view are more accessible to everyone. "Art should be available for all to enjoy, not a luxury reserved for galleries," said Karin Gustavsson, Creative Leader for KONSTRUNDA. "Art evokes emotion, sparks conversation and helps transform a house into a home. With KONSTRUNDA, we wanted to create a collection that encourages people to express themselves and surround themselves with objects they love."
The 18-piece collection consists of ceramics, furniture, and textiles, each showcasing the work of seven contributing artists, designers and creatives. While designs let the individuality of their creators shine, the collection as a whole is characterized by striking silhouettes, vivid colors and conversation-sparking forms.
Why This Trend Is Growing
- Accessible Art Objects
- Mass-market retailers are turning functional home goods into expressive collectibles, opening space for affordable design drops that bring gallery-like aesthetics into everyday interiors.
- Artist-led Retail Collaborations
- Limited collections shaped by independent creatives give brands a way to blend cultural credibility with scalable production, making original artistic perspectives more widely available.
- Expressive Home Personalization
- Consumers are seeking furniture, textiles and décor that communicate identity, creating demand for bold silhouettes, vivid colors and emotionally resonant design at approachable prices.
Industries Being Reshaped
- Home Décor
- Affordable art-infused objects are reshaping décor by merging utility with self-expression, expanding the market for statement pieces beyond traditional galleries and luxury design stores.
- Furniture Retail
- Large-format retailers can differentiate standardized assortments through creator-driven collections that feel unique, collectible and culturally relevant while remaining accessible to broad audiences.
- Textile Design
- Vibrant artist-designed fabrics introduce narrative and personality into soft goods, suggesting new value in limited-run patterns that transform ordinary household textiles into conversation pieces.
