Space Researchers Puzzled by Strange Extraterrestrial Noise

 - Jan 15, 2009   Updated: Jun 17 2011
You thought that loud booming noise was thunder? Or a sonic boom, or the burrito backfire? Actually, it could have come from outside our solar system and it totally has scientists mystified. Just recently, a balloon launched years ago heard a booming noise six times louder than anybody predicted. Analysis says that the boom is a mystery. Lots of things emit radio waves, but nothing of this magnitude.

Implications - One of the team members at Dale Fixsen of the University of Maryland at College Park explain that in order to find out what exactly caused the boom there would have to be hundreds of radios packed into outer space. He explains that the idea is not realistic, but perhaps future technology will be able to explain the space noises.
