Kura Sushi USA, the largest revolving sushi chain in the nation with over 90 locations across 23 states, has launched an interstellar collaboration with HoYoverse, the global interactive entertainment brand behind the popular role-playing game Honkai: Star Rail. As part of this co-branded venture, consumers will have the chance to access a special, limited-time dining experience that runs from June 24 through July 31.
The Honkai: Star Rail partnership introduces two exclusive monaka sandwich menu items, inspired by fan-favorite characters. These include the Sparkle's Shrimp Lover Monaka with popcorn shrimp, avocado, and shrimp mayo, and Aventurine's Tamago Mayo Crispy Chicken Monaka with marinated crispy chicken and tamago mayo. Both items are served between crispy mochi wafers with character audio clips playing as they arrive on the conveyor belt.
Guests can also collect randomized capsule prizes, including magnet sheets, acrylic swing charms, and can badges, with one prize awarded after consuming 15 plates, then 25, and every 15 plates thereafter.

What Makes This Trend Stand Out
- Gamified Dining
- Limited-time restaurant experiences with audio cues, plate milestones, and reward mechanics transform routine meals into interactive fandom journeys shaped by participation and scarcity.
- Character-inspired Menus
- Fictional personas translated into exclusive food formats create emotionally resonant menu items that connect culinary novelty with entertainment-driven identity and fan culture.
- Collectible Loyalty Rewards
- Randomized capsules and tiered prize thresholds introduce a low-tech form of engagement that blends dining frequency, surprise, and merchandise-driven retention.
Sectors Adopting This
- Casual Dining
- Revolving sushi and other high-throughput formats are positioned for hybrid experiences where menu innovation, automation, and entertainment partnerships increase visit frequency.
- Video Games
- Game publishers gain new physical-world touchpoints through restaurant collaborations that extend digital narratives into social dining environments and collectible moments.
- Licensed Merchandise
- Small-format collectibles tied to meals create scalable merchandise ecosystems where limited availability and character affinity drive perceived value beyond the core product.
