Festive Black Sesame Desserts

This Homemade Halloween Cake Features Orange Marshmallow Webbing

This homemade Halloween cake is the perfectly hued dessert to serve at any festivities come October 31st. Created by Maryanne Cabrera from the blog The Little Epicurean, the black sesame cake recipe has orange marshmallow webs.

The layered black sesame cake is covered in a black sesame frosting plus a marshmallow paste colored with orange food coloring. It looks a bit like silly string and eventually hardens, giving each bite a satisfying crunch. Against the grayish black icing, the homemade Halloween cake has a very spooky color palette. The sugar in the marshmallows also balances the nutty and toasty flavors present in the black sesame.

This recipe also involves making your own black sesame paste, which you can use in other treats.
