Instagram's 'Hide Inappropriate Comments' Blocks Negative Posts

High profile instances of malicious trolling and online bullying have plagued social media platforms for years, and Instagram's new 'Hide Inappropriate Comments' feature is a method for dealing with that unfortunate byproduct of an open social network.

The Hide Inappropriate Comments feature will impact the comments section of users' posts. It includes a default list of what Instagram has deemed as inappropriate and offensive words, and, if the feature is activated, it will automatically remove any comment that contains those words. The feature also allows users to add their own words to that list, making it adaptable to unforeseen bullying situations that might develop on the service.

Though the feature isn't a complete solution to the problem of online bullying, it allows users to more confidently post their images without fear of being targeted.
