HEVO Power is aiming to turn manholes into EV charging stations. The company has developed a conceptual manhole that could function as a wireless car charger. The system would work with an iPhone app that would help drivers find open HEVO Power manholes, see how much juice their car has received and let them pay for the energy used.
HEVO Power is hoping to have its energy stations ready for a small-scale 2014 debut in New York City's Washington Square Park. In addition to everyday drivers, the company also hopes to pitch its EV chargers to delivery companies and the military. A shortage of charging stations and range anxiety keep many away from EVs. Companies such as HEVO Power could very well help to change the public perception of electric vehicles.
