A cross-disciplinary group of scholars led by professor and pediatric endocrinologist Helen Storr at Queen Mary University London have launched a high-tech app that is designed to take the guesswork out of children's growth measurement and make it possible for their families and caregivers to accurately track their height and growth.
The key to the 'GrowthMonitor' app is its simplicity. The app, which is designed to be exceptionally easy to use, uses a color coding system to let parents know whether the height measurements of their children are normal (green), require more consistent monitoring (amber) or call for professional medical help (red).
Considering the fact that childhood growth is known to be a reliable predictor of certain aspects of health and well-being, there's a severe need for more accurate tools to keep tabs on children's height in order to be able to diagnosis growth disorders early on, which is precisely what this growth measurement app offers.
