'Transcend Lighting' is an American start-up, which aims to bring its energy-saving growth lights to indoor farmers across the country. Currently, many indoor farms rely on high pressure sodium lights to grow their plants. While sodium lights work well, they consume a substantial amount of electricity.
Determined to make indoor farming a more sustainable enterprise, Brian Bennett helped develop an energy-saving LED light. The new growth lights differ from traditional LED lights because they only use blue light. These lights are specifically designed for photosynthesis, which makes them ideal for growing plants indoors. According to Transcend Lighting, farmers can reduce their energy consumption by a whopping 70 percent simply by switching to the energy-saving growth lights.
With indoor farming on the rise, these lights could help ensure that this particular method of agriculture is sustainable in the long-term.
