GPS-Tracked Globalization

BBC Follows One Shipping Container's Journey

In these uncertain financial times, what toll is being taken on global commerce? BBC News is using a GPS-based system to track and report on a single shipping container as it moves around the world for a year to tell the story of globalization.

The container's current location can be seen via either of the links below. The container has received its first cargo which is, appropriately, whiskey.  The first leg of the trip it took has been put to film using GPS data points provided by BBC News.  The cargo will ultimately reach its customer on the docks of Shanghai, China.  Will it be immediately filled with new cargo or will this container be a metaphor for a globalization slowdown?
