Contactless Payment Sunglasses

The 'WaveShades' Festival Sunglasses Can Be Tapped on POS Terminals

Those who will be attending the St Jerome's Laneway Festival, which is taking place in five cities across Australia, will have the chance to try out a unique pair of festival sunglasses. These sunglasses are about more than showing off style—in fact, the WaveShades will help festival-goers to make effortless contactless purchases at POS terminals that accept tap-and-go payments.

The WaveShades are the result of a collaboration between Visa, sunglass manufacturer Local Supply and payment chip provider Inamo. Across Adelaide, Brisbane, Fremantle, Melbourne and Sydney, trials of Visa's WaveShades will indicate how these festival sunglasses are to be used in the future.

The contactless payment sunglasses use a similar technology that was used in The Curl by Inamo, a waterproof payment wearable that can be attached to watch and fitness bands.
