Ford's Emoji Jacket Encourages Communication on the Road
Laura McQuarrie — February 6, 2020 — Autos
To increase road safety for cyclists, Ford created a prototype Emoji Jacket that's designed to encourage clearer communication on the road. The design of the jacket includes an LED display on the back, which is connected to a wireless remote on the bike's handlebars. This means that cyclists could potentially use their jacket to show turn signals, indicate hazards or even just show their general mood.
As people are able to recognize and process images very quickly, the Emoji Jacket has the potential to help cyclists better convey their intentions to drivers in an effective visual way. As emojis are a simple, universal way for people to communicate with one another, this system may be effective for changing the way cyclists, drivers and pedestrians share the road with one another.
