I don't think too many people take the time to appreciate the artwork on playing card decks anymore, but if I managed to get my hands on a set that looked like these Emmanuel Jose paper cut illustrations, I'd be sure to stare at them more thoroughly before throwing down a winning hand in front of my peers.
Emmanuel Jose is a paper artist and the images you are staring at are part of a 52-week project he is embarking on where he'll carve out every single card in a standard playing deck. Some of these illustrations would be hard enough to make with a pen and paper, so to imagine Jose using an X-Acto knife to cut out these 2-feet tall images is simply amazing.
Implications - Consumers easily tire of commonplace product designs, which inhibits their desire to spend frivolously on new products. Corporations may consider hiring contemporary artists to reinvigorate consumer interest in product lines through idiosyncratic design elements in their wares.
