Dufry has Won a Bid for Two New Airport Retail Locations

Swiss duty-free retailer Dufry duty free has been confirmed as the sole bidder for the lucrative contracts to operate shops at Spain’s two largest airports in Madrid and Barcelona. This development comes as a part of a broader tender process relaunched by Spanish airport operator Aena, aimed at enhancing the retail experience in these key travel hubs. The contracts are set to bolster Dufry’s presence in the region, adding to their existing operations across Aena’s network, which includes Andalusia-Mediterranean and Balearic Islands airports.

The deal, which sees Dufry committing to a rent of €185 million for the first year, underscores the company’s strategic commitment to the Spanish market, where it already operates several duty-free locations. The agreement is expected to significantly increase the retail offerings at both the Madrid and Barcelona airports, providing travelers with a more diverse and upscale shopping experience.
