Drag Queen University Acceptance

GMU Picks Ryan Allen as Homecoming Queen

Ryan Allen, a senior at George Mason University (GMU), is a popular drag queen on campus. He has been selected as the University’s 2009 homecoming queen.

Crowds cheered as Ryan, dressed to the nines in gold sequins, accepted the tiara and the 2009 Ms. Mason sash.

Known for his charitable works as Reann Ballslee, Ryan has raised money for HIV and hosted an amateur drag night cabaret.

GMU, known for its racial diversity and a championship basketball team, was listed as the country’s top “school to watch” in U.S. News and World Report.

A National Center for Transgender Equity spokesperson, Mara Keisling, said that this selection and lack of resulting controversy “shows that the students and the George Mason community have a good sense of perspective.”
