Sign Language Animation Songs

Disney+ Emphasizes Disney Animation's Songs in Sign Language

Disney+ has expanded its accessibility offerings with the introduction of Disney Animation's Songs in Sign Language. This collection reimagines three popular musical sequences from Frozen 2, Encanto, and Moana 2 through the lens of American Sign Language, accompanied by a behind-the-scenes featurette that documents the creative process.

The Disney Animation's Songs in Sign Language project represents a significant departure from conventional captioning or audio description services, as it integrates ASL performance directly into the animated visuals. This, in turn, will allow Deaf and hard-of-hearing viewers to experience the emotional nuance, rhythm, and storytelling of each song in a more visceral and culturally resonant way.

This initiative was made possible through the collaboration with Deaf West Theatre and the involvement of over 20 animators, guided by director Hyrum Osmond.
