The technology, which transforms ocean water from the Atlantic into drinkable water that is safe to consume, is kept inside a shipping container. The key to the desalination device lies in the incorporation of solar panels.
Reverse osmosis is not a new concept, however, the carbon emission-free production is quite cutting-edge. In addition, the solar panel-backed desalination device is also extremely affordable than its counterpart. Solar Water Solutions places the shipping container on the University of Namibia's campus. While the water will be used to "irrigate a new carbon garden of trees," the application of the device can extend to cover other social and ecological issues.
