IKEA teamed up with Dutch denim company MUD Jeans to create a sustainable line of denim sofa covers made from recycled materials. The limited-edition sofa covers are made with 40% post-consumer recycled denim, which means that there are about two pairs of jeans that make up each of the covers. Thanks to the use of these materials, the covers have a reduced carbon footprint of about 67% and they help to conserve 27,000 liters of water.
By making the most of these materials, IKEA gives new life to materials that might otherwise end up in the landfill or otherwise improperly disposed of. The limited-edition sofa covers for IKEA's KLIPPAN style will be available in select countries. As well as helping to make the most of recycled materials, the sofa introduces a bold new look for the iconic IKEA design.
