Digital Default Shade Upgrades

Microsoft Changes the Default Shade of Red for Accessibility

Microsoft has recently implemented a modification to the default shade of red available in the font color selector of its core productivity applications, including Word and PowerPoint. The adjustment involves a slight darkening of the color to enhance its visibility against a white background. This will improve legibility for individuals with visual impairments, such as low vision or color vision deficiencies, and promote greater independence and reduce eye strain.

The updated default shade of red is now automatically available to users on the latest versions of the software for both Windows and Mac operating systems. Microsoft enacted this change in order to bring the color into compliance with internationally recognized digital accessibility standards, specifically the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
