Blue Light-Free Tablets

The DC1 From Daylight Utilizes a 'Live Paper Display' with No Blue Light

The Daylight DC1 is a new entrant in the Android tablet market, distinguished by its innovative ‘Live Paper’ display technology. This 10.5-inch tablet is designed to offer a reading and interaction experience akin to e-ink displays, but with the added advantage of significantly faster response times. The ‘Live Paper’ display boasts a high refresh rate, potentially up to 120Hz, which promises a smooth visual experience comparable to traditional LCD screens. The display is monochrome and engineered to emit no blue light, which is believed to disrupt sleep patterns by affecting the circadian rhythm. Daylight emphasizes that the DC1 tablet is particularly effective in bright outdoor conditions, where it can be used comfortably without the glare typically associated with conventional displays.

The Daylight DC1 runs on a customized version of Android that is designed to minimize distractions. Notifications are disabled by default to foster a focused user environment. While the full specifications of the tablet have not been disclosed, it is capable of running standard Android applications, although it has not been confirmed whether it includes access to the Google Play Store. The device is part of Daylight’s broader vision to create technology that encourages users to engage more with the natural world and their own thoughts, rather than being constantly overstimulated by screens. The company has completed its first round of pre-orders, with further orders requiring a refundable deposit, and shipments are expected to commence in June 2024.
