Japan is leading the world in new uses for cell phones, clearly indicated by the latest trend in taking college classes via mobile. Softbank offers classes from Cyber University. The class costs students nothing more than regular phone rates -- there is no tuition. This is no diploma mill, they currently offer 100 classes through the more "traditional" online class structure.
Implications - Young adults are constantly on the go while attached to their mobile devices. To them, multitasking is normal. Ideas such as free classes via mobile signify not only a technological shift but a shift in education. Education institutions are catching on that by using social media tools, they are able to reach a greater number of students.
