CrowdCases is the new venture consisting of a community of graphic designers "using art to change the world." Each week, a specific cause and non-profit organization is used to catapult a group of graphic designers to come up with a phone case design that corresponds with the mission of the organization itself. The cases are available for iPhone and and Samsung Galaxy.
The ephemeral quality adds to the cachet: each case is sold for a week only. What's more, the whole process operates as a sort of monetized contest: the winning designer will receive $500. Seven dollars of each case goes to the non-profit organization. CrowdCases attempts to do and meld a lot of various approaches to entrepreneurship and social business that are decidedly du jour: crowdsourcing, charity by the sale and tech.
