This company is trying to give back to the country that developed the practice by helping vulnerable women escape the sex trade.
‘CorkYogis’ is a social business that operates according to the one-for-one model. For each cork yoga mat that the company sells, it will help an Indian women find dignified employment. The company is able to do this by working with charities in Calcutta that are able to train women in valuable skills such as reading, writing, sewing and tailoring. CorkYogis also employs a number of these women to produce handmade Yoga mat bags out of old saris.
CorkYogis is currently running a Kickstarter campaign to grow the company and help more Indian women find meaningful employment.
