Disney Created a Facial Recognition System Named the Content Genome
Daniel Johnson — July 20, 2020 — Tech
Disney created a new AI facial recognition platform, named the Content Genome, which can be used to automate a massive digital archive for decades of animated content. The content Genome was created by researchers from the Direct-to-Consumer & International Organization, DTCI, and the group states that it can act as an ‘automated tagging pipeline.’ The project was started back in 2016, and it uses facial recognition software to sift through animated content and detect faces.
The system would allow Disney to quickly search through huge amounts of content to find even the smallest details. This information can be used to help inform future movies and shows from Disney. In the future, the company states that the system could be expanded to understand general concepts, through Multimodal machine learning.
