The Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) is known to test the boundaries of food every year featuring the newest -- and weirdest -- food crazes.
One of the stalls featured in this year's event will be 'Cake Poutine.' Humbly created by two recent pastry school grads, the dish is inspired by the Canadian favorite but is not actually made with its traditional ingredients. Instead, this dessert features cake and toppings that strikingly resemble the comfort food.
The dessert's fries will be made with vanilla pound cake, fresh-fruit toppings and various sauces that will stand in for gravy. 'Cake Poutine' was a hit in the creators' classroom and at a recent outdoor festival. The duo hopes that a stall at one of Canada's largest festivals makes the dessert a household name.
