Cartoon-Covered Fun Houses

This Collaborative Design Project Transformed a Storage Unit Into Art

Los Angeles-based art studio called 'DABSMYLA' transformed this unused storage building into a collaborative art project. DABSMYLA partnered with Modernica to alter the 4,000 square foot space into a whimsical fun house.

The old 1930s storage unit was filled with "paintings, sculptures, installations and exclusive furnishings to create an immersive cartoon world." The two contributing parties were able to share many views and similar perspectives, which can be seen in accents of mid-century modernism works. Using bold colors and whimsical designs such as cartoon cats, ducks and people brings a playful aura to the entire atmosphere.

This collaborative design project was given the title 'Before & Further.' The idea is to take something that has been overlooked, such as an old storage building and transform it into something new. Things that were once useful can always be re-purposed.
