Forgotten Theme-Park Art Exhibitions

Luna Luna Presents the Forgotten Fantasy Exhibition in LA

Luna Luna re-installs the Forgotten Fantasy exhibition of what was once an art theme park now at the Ace Mission Studios in LA. It features a Ferris Wheel by Jean-Michel Basquiat, a bright carousel by Keith Haring, and works by artists such as David Hockney. The installation showcases rides and other attractions only as an exhibit with limited interactive features and performers as a part of the experience.

Director of spatial design Charles Dorrance-King explains to Dezeen, "The team's concept for the exhibition layout was to reference and celebrate the key characteristics, dynamic atmosphere, and formal relationships, between the artworks within Luna Luna's 1987 debut in Hamburg, while acknowledging that its new home within a Los Angeles soundstage is starkly different from the grass and mud of a tree-lined German park. [The exhibition] required a modified approach that still spoke to the spirit of '87, such as utilizing Sonia Delaunay's archway not as an entrance to the park, but instead as a gateway between two adjacent warehouses. The first space highlights the spectacle, and the second focuses on the story of Luna Luna."
