The core mechanics of Children of Morta consist of action-packed dungeon dives, level and stat progression, and unlocking mechanics. The formula is nothing new, but it only serves to drive the innovative story and family depiction.

Interspersed throughout the action are short vignettes of family life. Grandma telling stories by a fire, a mother feeding wildlife in a nearby forest and the kids taking care of an orphaned puppy. The moments really make Children of Morta and while these scenes may not add anything to the story, they do offer a sense of serenity and storytelling in the game.
