DIY Smartphone Chargers

Casey Neistat’s iPhone 5 Dock is Handmade

Casey Neistat’s iPhone 5 dock gets around one of primary problems with the breakout smartphone. The design features a new charging tool, resulting in the obsolescence of past Apple chargers.

Neistat’s stand from a previous iPhone no longer functioned with the model, and given his extensive skill set, he filmed his handmade creation of a charging system for the iPhone 5.

The three minute montage follows the New Yorker as he screwed, drilled and pieced together sawed wood. Cable clamps and a glue gun are were used, and given the inexpensive nature of these tools, the DIY project can easily be copied at home.

Neistat also chose to mark the date on the front of the dock, a feature that can be substituted for a name, saying or quirky design.
