The New York City Department of Transportation is trialling car-share parking spaces that can only be used for car-sharing. The pilot program will last two years and cover approximately 300 parking spots in municipal lots and another 300 on-street zones in specified neighborhoods. These facilities include both municipal parking fields and garages. These spaces are reserved for the use of car-share companies like Car2Go, Enterprise Carshare, Reach Now and Zipcar.
Car-sharing as a service will improve air quality locally, lower transportation costs for households and improve access to service. This program for car-share parking spaces will also decrease the amount of time you spend looking for parking and will decrease personal car ownership and reduce congestion on the roads.
