The Caribbean now has a place where visitors don't have to skip their pagers across the ocean (as seen in the Corona commercial) because the electronic devices are not allowed there in the first place. Elite Island Resorts on Palm Island, a part of the Grenadines has banned mobiles, laptops, and PDAs within a half-mile radius of the Casarina Beach. This is the first Caribbean getaway to ban mobile usage. Photo courtesy of chiacomo on Flickr.

Implications - The relaxing experience and ambiance of a tropical resort is easily hindered by the busy-bodying sounds of cell phone rings and text message sounds. The Elite Island Resorts cellphone ban respects the relaxation experience of its guests and chief exec Rob Barrett stands by his decision.
