Eerie Dream Photography (UPDATE)

The Brittany Markert ‘Serenade Sublimina' Series is I

Sweet dreams meet beautiful nightmares in the Brittany Markert ‘Serenade Sublimina’ photo series, which explores the ambivalent realm between sleep and awake. The San Francisco-based photographer captures those moments of peaceful confusion beautifully in hauntingly moving photos that leave much up to the interpretation of the viewer, just like the dreams themselves.

“Serenade Sublimina explores the in-between stage of dreams and reality, a world of uncertainty in which societal bounds are removed. This loss of structure embraces the non-linear desires of the past, future and present, driving the subconscious to welcome unrestricted possibilities,” explains the artist to PhotoDonuts.com. I adore how she begins and ends the series with photos of the dreamer in color, before drifting off into a wavering world of black and white. The photograph of a woman being dragged by a man down the aisle of a church is especially eerie, and looks like a scene taken straight from a nightmarish horror film.

Whether you’re a fan of scary stories and flicks, or you’d prefer to dream of sugar blossoms and unicorns, there’s no denying the incredible talent and imagination found in the Brittany Markert ‘Serenade Sublimina’ series.
