Bottle Authentication Technology

DeLux Adds Scannable Security Seals To Verify Spirit Bottles

DeLux is bringing bottle-level verification to spirit buyers with its Tap seal, first used on Spirit of the Downs brandy so buyers can check origin, confirm authenticity and see when a bottle was first opened. The move makes Spirit of the Downs the first spirit on DeLux's bottle-to-consumer platform, built for the spirits trade and for post-purchase contact with buyers who opt in.

A security tag fitted to the neck breaks on opening, and a phone scan lets buyers view provenance details and claim blockchain-backed ownership in the DeLux app. The first bottles reached shelves on 15 October, with a wider rollout set to cover more bottles and casks.

Digital ownership claims through the app turn a bottle sale into an ongoing contact point for distilleries instead of a transaction that ends at retail. First-opening detection makes product protection visible to the buyer, which shifts anti-counterfeit checks from a back-end control into part of the purchase.
