Item-Level Digital Passports

SealTrust Publishes Its Verifiable Product Passport Demo

SealTrust published a live demonstration of an item-level digital product passport that lets readers verify product information in about 10 seconds using a public blockchain anchor. The passport can be accessed from a phone without requiring a dedicated app and is intended to let consumers, auditors and other stakeholders confirm that published records have not been altered.

The system can include materials, components, suppliers, substances of concern and repairability data and exports information as JSON-LD using GS1 vocabulary. SealTrust also supports six access profiles for different users and can connect products through GS1 Digital Link QR codes or NTAG 424 DNA chips for higher-value items. The NFC version can also record when packaging has been opened.

For brands and consumers, the approach makes product data easier to verify independently while supporting traceability, repairability and circularity initiatives. It also demonstrates how public verification layers could strengthen trust in emerging digital product passport systems.

Item-level Verification
Public blockchain anchors make individual product records independently checkable, creating new value in tamper-evident transparency for consumers, auditors and resale markets.
App-free Product Passports
Mobile-accessible QR and NFC passports reduce friction around product data access, opening space for scalable authentication experiences across everyday purchases.
Circularity Data Infrastructure
Structured materials, repairability and supplier information supports emerging circular economy models where products retain value through verified reuse, repair and recycling pathways.

Industries Being Reshaped

Consumer Goods
Brands can differentiate physical products with verifiable provenance and compliance data that strengthens trust throughout purchase, ownership and end-of-life decisions.
Packaging
NFC-enabled packaging that records opening events introduces opportunities for anti-tampering, warranty validation and premium product protection.
Supply Chain Technology
Interoperable standards such as GS1 Digital Link and JSON-LD create a foundation for cross-platform traceability systems serving regulators, manufacturers and retailers.
