Architecture firm BAT Studio has just completed the design of the Blooming Shed in North London. It features a facade that moves open and close, similar to the function of a set of drawers. The team had designed and built the flexible structure in Chase Farm Hospital's community garden in Enfield. It is meant to function as storage, a workshop space, and an event space.
The dynamic build is made up of three glazed arches -- all of which are mounted on a set of large drawer runners. The team, led by founders Jonty Craig and David Di Duca, explains, "We believe this is a first-of-its-kind facade. It unfurls to dissolve the building's boundary and invite the outdoors in. This interplay of movement and space creates a building that feels alive, shifting,g and blooming with the seasons."
