The Blok.Party Playtable is an interesting piece of tech that capitalizes on the board game boom and innovates it with blockchain technology. The device itself is a large tablet like console that utilizes a touch screen and RFID technology to play almost all of the games it offers. The demo systems currently run on Windows, but the team at Blok.Party is working on an Android port which is what the final production model will run on. The system can currently run board games like Catan, Ticket to Ride and Texas Hold ’Em, and also features a bespoke game called Battlegrids.
Battlegrids is a truly unique IP to the Blok.Party Playtable and illustrates how blockchain tech can change how people play games. Battlegrid and the Playtable read information from physical game pieces or cards, and then store that information securely online. The storing of this data allows for pieces to be moved, leveled up, changed and traded without players having to keep track of everything. The blockchain tech also eliminates the need to keep track of complex rules as the Blok.Party Playtable records and saves every move.
