'Bitchat' Relies on Bluetooth Mesh Networks to Connect Users

— July 8, 2025 — Tech
The 'Bitchat' messaging app has been announced as a new platform from Jack Dorsey that's focused on an Internet-free functionality. The app utilizes a decentralized, peer-to-peer platform that relies entirely on Bluetooth networks instead of the Internet, which will allow for encrypted communication between connected devices. The platform thus enables users to discreetly communicate with one another, while their devices also act as a node that will wide the network and thus allow for a greater number of users over a distance to connect.

The 'Bitchat' messaging app also enables groups chats that can be titled using hashtags and even protected with passwords to keep them strictly for authorized parties only. The app is expected to feature a future version that will incorporate WiFi Direct to further increase the size and speed of the network.
