Biological Material Game Controllers

A Team of Designers Dream up the BioHybrid Device Controller

A team of designers comprised of Vivien Roussel, Madalina Nicolae, and Marc Teyssier work together to create the BioHybrid Device for gaming. It is a video game controller and the idea brings attention to biofabrication instead of a product that is constructed in an assembly line.

It fuses biological growth together with digital fabrication. It is grown using a symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast materials and then integrated with sensors and electronic features. The designers were able to make this possible by fusing electronic components into living organisms which in the end, created an interactive biohybrid device, blurring boundaries. The idea started with the question prompt “What if we could biologically grow interactive devices?”
