Flying beer-delivery robots may sound like a thing of dreams, but it will be a reality for attendees of the South African OppiKoppi music festival this summer.
For the festival, OppiKoppi collaborated with Darkwing Aerials to devise the easiest way possible to get a drink. The remote-control operated drone will save thirsty festival-goers from the hassle of having to stand in long lineups and push through crowds and leave them with more time to enjoy the music.
Using a mobile app that tracks location, festival attendees will be able to order alcohol and have cans of beer and safely sent parachuting down to them from the sky. Currently, the drones are manually guided to their destination by remote control, but there are plans to set the system up on a GPS grid. Hopefully this delivery system will eventually go global.
