The BASIN Glacial Waters Integrates into Lake Louise Landscape

— February 27, 2026 — Lifestyle
BASIN Glacial Waters is a thermal bathing facility designed by Matteo Thun that embeds into the Lake Louise landscape near Victoria Glacier in Banff National Park. Located at Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, the project introduces European-style sweat culture traditions alongside glacial-fed hydrotherapy. The architecture features large arched windows that reference the historic hotel while framing mountain views and drawing natural light into interior spaces. Sustainably sourced Canadian wood beams span the ceilings, contributing warmth and acoustic control within the carved, terrain-integrated structure.

The facility includes sauna and steam rooms with varying humidity levels, thermal and reflexology pools, and dedicated relaxation areas. Outdoor terraces extend bathing experiences toward surrounding alpine views. Interior elements such as a Himalayan salt wall and a Kneipp Walk add material contrast, while finishes are selected to withstand constant exposure to moisture and temperature variation.
