Founders Brewing Co., which is renowned for brewing beers that embrace large and bold flavors, has launched a decadent new barrel-aged beer that takes the venerable profile of the company's KBS, an Imperial stout brewed with generous amounts of chocolate and coffee, and laces it with a hint of sweet hazelnut.
The 'KBS Hazelnut' is a barrel-aged beer that offers an ABV (alcohol by volume) of 12 percent, making it a decidedly robust beverage. It is available in four-packs of 12-ounce bottles across 50 states.
As Founders Brewing brewmaster Jeremy Kosmicki points out, hazelnut has long been used to add a layer of flavor and nutty enjoyment to coffee, so there's no reason why this wouldn't work in conjunction with a beer that uses generous amounts of coffee. "It really adds another amazing layer of depth to an already perfectly balanced and complex beer," Kosmicki said.
