Graffiti Artist-Inspired Pop-up Bars

Bar Basquiat is a Bar Dedicated to the Iconic American Artist

Bar Basquiat is a new drinking establishment located in Amsterdam East dedicated to American artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. The space was transformed into a tribute to the painter and poet by Studio Modijefsky, who overhauled a former local grocery store and butcher shop.

The results are an eclectic watering hole brimming with subtle and not-so subtle references to and imagery from the artist's short but prolific career. Various Basquiat quotes have been illuminated as neon signs throughout the space, while shelving units preserved from the grocery store serve as an industrial storage system for the bar. Other elements from the butcher and grocery store that have been incorporated into the bar include the swinging doors from the butcher counter.
