Jamie Lopez decided to create Babydoll Beauty Couture when she became fed up with the feelings of exclusion she often had when entering other salons. In addition to being discriminated against as a makeup artist, she felt that her plus-size status prevented her from getting the most out of her salon experience, as many salons didn't cater to her specific needs.
At Babydoll Beauty Couture, plus-size women are able to comfortably enjoy spray tanning and waxing, or get their nails, hair extensions, and makeup done. In order to accommodate women of all sizes, Lopez has made some practical adjustments to what typical salons might offer. In addition to ensuring that Babydoll Beauty Couture is accessible, there's pedicure benches that can hold up to 800 pounds of weight, as well as waxing benches that can hold up to 600 pounds.
Lopez explained her vision to Yahoo Beauty by saying, "When women walk away from getting services done at my salon, I want them to feel beautiful, confident, and sexy."
