State Farm's newest patent application reveals plans for a new type of auto insurance plan that would create custom insurance rates for customers based on a combination of biometric and automotive data.
In an attempt to prevent road range from escalating into a potential danger, the system aims to detect and diffuse anxiety, agitation and aggression. The 'Emotion Management System,' as it's being called, would use a combination of sensors and cameras to keep a pulse on data related to a driver's heart rate, grip on the steering wheel, body temperature, arm movement, head movement, vocal patterns and respiration rate. If alarming set of triggers is detected, the system would offer stimuli to change a driver's behavior. For instance, this might include the onset of relaxing music, pre-recorded messages, nature sounds, fragrance or even cool blasts of air.
