Artist Gary Jones has shaken up the art community with his interesting reworking of world-recognized canvases. In his artworks, Jones remixes photographs by superimposing new, colorful and contrasting images, inserting unfitting subject matter and completely altering the meaning of the original artwork. In one way or another, each of Jones's pieces features prominent popular culture icons, events or news in paradoxical paintings. Through his inventive and clever masterpieces, Jones superimposes different eras and generational phenomenon together to form a pleasing mixture.
With Gary Jones's help, pop art is combined with historical works of art including Renaissance artist Raphael's The School of Athens, Banksy's renowned acrylic paintings -- the most famous include Campbell's Soup Can and Marilyn Monroe's profile -- and Michelangelo's The Pieta.
