Daniel Johnson — September 4, 2019 — Tech
The Android 10 accessibility features will include Bluetooth capabilities for hearing aids, where users can stream music or take a call on their hearing aids. The new Android 10 accessibility features are geared toward helping those who wear hearing aids to be able to use their mobile phone to its maximum capabilities. The new feature is titled Audio Streaming for Hearing Aids, or ASHA. The streaming to a hearing aid is transmitted over Bluetooth Low Energy, or BLE, which can allow both hearing aids and phones to maintain batteries.
With the accessibility features, those with hearing aids will be able to use the devices much like wireless headphones. This extends the capabilities of a smartphone for those who wear hearing aids.
Google has been making efforts to increase the accessibility of Android devices.
