The Americas Pet Frenzy Infographic Takes a Look at the Costly Industry
Rebecca Byers — March 3, 2012 — Lifestyle
FrugalDad.com's Americas Pet Frenzy infographic is a detailed review of the enormous pet industry in the US, which is worth $50.8 billion dollars annually. Surprisingly, however, the interesting infographic also provides details that prove it isn't a one way street -- owning pets can add years to the human life. There is, as FrugalDad.com points out, an imbalance still though, as four million animals die in shelters every year.
According to the Americas Pet Frenzy infographic, more is spent per year on pets in the US than on movies, digital music and video games combined. Dog owners live up to three years longer than the average American, and heart attack victims are six times more likely to survive if they own dogs.
