After sifting through this gallery of Alex Ziv illustrations, you’ll probably never look at pop culture characters like Mickey Mouse in the same way again. Ziv, a recent graduate of SFAI, enjoys taking familiar cartoon icons and rendering them in a style reminiscent of the outlandish works of Robert Crumb. Similar to Crumb, Ziv’s portfolio is comprised of highly sexualized pieces that are mostly fashioned using a pointillism approach. He also has a bit of Roy Lichtenstein in him as elements in his creations feature a comic drawing aesthetic that the late pop artist made popular.
Where Alex Ziv differs from the aforementioned artists however is in his ability to balance and ultimately collage a myriad of styles to produce visuals that are distinctly his own. His work literally borrows from all reaches of media to create something new.
