A state-owned Chinese news agency is making the best out of artificial intelligence technology with the launch of its AI news anchors. The entities present a combination of "graphics and audio of real-life humans." The project has been executed in collaboration with Beijing-based search engine operator Sogou.
Although still in its development stages, Xinhua maintains that its AI news anchors will unlock the possibility for realistic speech and facial expressions. The all-digital entities can deliver news in both English and Chinese. They will definitely prove to be a more cost-effective venture for the agency as an AI news anchor can work round the clock.
The digital news-delivery method has been launched on Xinhua's internet and mobile platforms.
